Key Date 1877 Indian Head in Gem BU
1877 1C MS 66 Red and Brown NGC The obverse of this piece carries mottled brown highlights with ample underlying red luster. The strike is notably incomplete with weakness of definition on the feather tips, lowest hair curl, and OF AMERICA. Besides the characteristic weakness on the lower left side of the N in ONE, the right side of the reverse also displays softness of strike. While the reverse exhibits more original luster than the obverse, we note streaky brown overtones that impart a woodgrain appearance. Both sides of this coin reveal no distracting marks and do complete justice to the gem grade level. An important, original example of an issue whose collector appeal hardly needs to be reiterated.
