Description
1915-S Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Round, MS62 NGC
1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Round MS62 NGC. One of the rarest and most impressive of all United States coins, the round Pan-Pac fifty-dollar gold represents the ultimate in commemorative coinage. Although 1,500 of these were minted originally, for sale at the Panama-Pacific Exposition, the selling price of the coins ($100 each) was so high that fewer than a third were sold. The unsold balance was returned to the mint for melting, resulting in a net mintage of only 483 rounds. This large, heavy coin (2 1/2 times the weight of a Double Eagle) features the head of Athena on the obverse and her owl trademark on the reverse. The example offered here is very nicely preserved and highly attractive. The color is a rich, deep, orange-gold and the surfaces retain their original luster and brilliance. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a nice example of this rare issue, that has appeared less frequently in recent years.
