Description

Conditionally Rare 1862 Dollar, MS64 NGC

1862 $1 MS64 NGC. Although the 1862 dollar was minted in low numbers - just 11,540 business strikes were struck in this year, a fair number have survived to the present day. This issue becomes rare in Mint State, especially so in MS64 or better. Only 22 pieces have been so graded by NGC with just two finer (2/05). The sharply struck surfaces on this piece show deep golden and gray toning with aqua accents, and a thin arc of charcoal-gray around the left side of the obverse. When angled just so beneath a light the underlying, original luster is still apparent. A few minute marks on Liberty's midsection and left arm, and in the adjacent right obverse field, limit the grade.(#6952) (Registry values: N4719)
