Description
Near-Gem 1837 Classic Half Eagle
1837 $5 MS64 NGC. The Classic Half Eagle series is a short and completable one for many collectors. Most of the issues are usually available for a price. However, what one notices soon after picking up the "easy" issues is that for some reason the 1837 is a very elusive date. In fact, it is the scarcest P-mint in the Classic series except, of course, for the Crosslet 4, and is a coin that is rarely encountered in mint condition. This piece is sharply struck throughout and shows bright mint luster that is minimally affected by any significant abrasions on either side. Population: 5 in 64, 0 finer (9/01).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25RZ, PCGS# 8175, GSID# 8866)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 8.36 grams
AGW: 0.27oz
Mintage: 207,121
