Description

Scarce 1796 Ten Dollar

1796 $10 --Whizzed--ANACS. AU Details, Net XF40. B. 1-A, Taraszka-6, R.4. While 4,146 pieces were struck of the 1796 Eagle (a thousand or so fewer than its 1795 counterpart), it is much scarcer than the 1795. Far fewer were saved, no doubt because the novelty of the first-year of issue had worn away, and nice, high grade pieces are quite elusive. A bit weak in the centers, the surfaces are very bright from the whizzing and the coin has an orange-gold color overall.
