Description
Seldom Offered Gem 1874 Arrows Quarter
1874 25C Arrows MS 65 PCGS. Most branch mint issues in U.S. numismatics are scarcer than their P-mint counterparts, especially in Mint State. The most common Seated quarter of the short-lived Motto, Arrows type is, however, the 1874-S. A hoard of 80-100 examples of this branch mint issue were discovered in a West Coast bank in 1949, and most of these coins grade finer than MS 63. Fate was not as kind to the 1874, however, and the present example is one of only seven MS 65 examples known to both NGC and PCGS (7/00). This fully struck representative combines pristine surfaces and coruscant mint frost for exceptional eye appeal. The toning is light and champagne-apricot in hue. From the Bob Bisanz U.S. Type Set.
