Description
High Quality Gem Proof 1866 Motto Half, A Peripherally Toned Beauty
1866 50C PR66 PCGS. Ex: Benson. The toning that graces the peripheral areas of this razor sharp Gem really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. Overlapping halos of cobalt-blue and reddish-russet colors hug the denticles and brighten considerably at direct angles. The colors are less extensive on the reverse, but the centers are equally bright and untoned on both sides. A virtually pristine representative of this, the premier proof delivery in the Motto Seated Half Dollar series of 1866-1891. This coin realized $7,475 as lot 1024 in the Benson Collection Sale (Goldbergs, 2/2002).From the Trane Collection.
