Description

Seldom-Seen 1829 Quarter Eagle

1829 MS 62 NGC. First year of the modified, small size Capped Head Left type. Most survivors from the mintage of 3,403 pieces are only XF, and at the Uncirculated level this is definitely above average for the issue and type. The fields show very little of the reflectivity that is so often seen on this date. Green-gold overall with just the slightest accent of reddish patina, the striking details are well defined on the obverse and show just the slightest trace of softness on the eagle's plumage on the reverse. Moderately abraded with excellent luster characteristics. Population: 6 in 62, only 10 finer (10/97).
