Description

Choice AU Cohen-4 1793 Half Cent

1793 1/2 C AU55 PCGS. C-4, B-4, Low R.3. An attractive and boldly defined golden-brown and olive representative of this important introductory type, produced only in 1793. The Liberty Cap motif returned in 1794, but Liberty faced right, the same direction as on Large cents through 1807. The present piece is a couple of degrees off-center toward 3 o'clock, with only a few dentils affected. The right borders exhibit minute pitting, and a tiny rim nicks are noted at 10 o'clock on the obverse and 2 o'clock on the reverse. These are of little significance, and this partly lustrous example is vastly superior to most surviving 1793 half cents, which are generally found well worn and corroded. EAC 30.
