Description
Important 1846-D Quarter Eagle, AU 53
1846-D $2 1/2 AU 53 PCGS. Like the '46-D in AU 53 that was in our Santa Clara Sale, this piece also is unusually sharp for a product of the Dahlonega mint. The eagle's plumage is especially well struck and Liberty's hair curls show above average definition. Also, like our Santa Clara coin, this piece shows rich green-gold color and is minimally abraded. Fewer than 50 pieces are believed to exist today of this issue in AU and Mint State grades.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25H3, PCGS# 7742, GSID# 8352)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 4.18 grams
