Description
Gem 1805 Half Eagle--Tied For Finest Known
1805 MS 65 NGC. Not in Breen, Miller-73, R.6. A second example of this scarce variety. This coin, however, is considerably finer than the MS 62 above, being tied for finest known with one other piece (a coin certified by PCGS). This is an extraordinary piece in every respect, from the striking details to the mint luster. Both sides are blanketed in rich orange-gold mint frost which is virtually blemish-free and tinted on the reverse with small portions of rose patina. The striking details are unusually strong with especially sharp definition on the breast feathers of the eagle above the shield. This is, without a doubt, one of the finest preserved pieces of early gold we have ever had the pleasure of handling.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25P4, PCGS# 8088, GSID# 8805)
