Description
1787 1C Fugio Cent, UNITED STATES, Cinquefoils AU53 PCGS. Pointed Rays. Newman 8-B. Well struck with variegated light and darker brown coloration, the planchet shows some porosity and a couple of minor laminations, as often found on these pieces. On the reverse, there are traces of an erroneously punched ONE beneath ARE. According to the Roper Sale catalog, "This reverse is quite scarce as a type." This is a very satisfying example of the first U.S. coinage authorized by Congress. Listed on page 63 of the 2002 Guide Book.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2B8F, PCGS# 889, GSID# 189)
