Description
Rich Looking 1846-D Liberty Quarter Eagle, AU53 PCGS
1846-D $2 1/2 AU53 PCGS. Among Dahlonega Mint Quarter Eagles, the 1846-D is more challenging to locate in high grades than the 1843-D, 1844-D, 1847-D, and 1857-D. This is not to say that the '46-D is common in AU, as Winter (1997) asserts that just 43-45 coins are extant at that grade level from an original mintage of 19,303 pieces. As befits the issue, this coin is well struck with no areas of bothersome lack of detail. The surfaces present a rich, original appearance that is characterized by honey-olive color. With no singularly mentionable blemishes, we anticipate that this well preserved D-mint Quarter Eagle will have little trouble finding its way into an advanced collection.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25H3, PCGS# 7742, GSID# 8352)
