Description

Affordable 1873 Proof 58 Quarter Eagle

1873 PR 58 ANACS. As with many of the other quarter eagles in this impressive catalog, the 1873 is also a major rarity as a proof. Only 25 pieces were originally struck, and while estimates in the past have run as high as 19 survivors, a more likely estimate is around 13 pieces. This particular 1873 was slightly mishandled at one time, thus the PR 58 designation. The coin has still exhibits glittering fields and is mildly contrasted, but some hairlines and small handling marks are also seen in the fragile fields. An affordable example of this rare proof quarter eagle.
