Sparkling Gem Proof Deep Cameo 1889 Three Dollar Gold Piece
1889 $3 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. Only 129 proof Threes were produced in 1889, but even that low figure may be somewhat misleading as some may have been melted along with undistributed business strikes when the federal government discontinued this denomination in 1890. This is an exceptionally pleasing Gem that shows deeply mirrored fields on each side with thickly frosted devices. The only surface flaw we see on this extraordinary coin is a short lint mark that was struck into the obverse field by star 1.
