Description

Elusive MS 65 Red 1924-D Lincoln Cent

1924-D 1C MS 65 Red PCGS. The semi-key status of the 1924-D has been widely known in numismatic circles for decades. Only 2.5 million pieces were produced, an insignificant total for a 20th century cent issue. Examples are elusive in all grades, particularly above the XF grade level. Although not as poorly produced as other D-mint issues, such as the 1918-D and 1925-D, the '24-D is not at all common with fully defined features. The strike on both sides of this coin is not complete, but it is bold in all areas save for the tops of the letters in ONE on the reverse. Fulsome mint luster alternates between pink and red shades in the absence of both toning and distracting blemishes. A find for the advanced specialist. Population: 22 in 65, only 1 finer (4/01).
