Description

Noteworthy 1797 Small Eagle Ten Dollar AU55

1797 $10 Small Eagle AU55 NGC. Breen-6833, B. 1-A, Taraszka-7, R.5. The final issue of the Small Eagle type and the rarest of the three dates, with greater production given to the Heraldic Eagle design that was introduced later in this transitional year. As Akers points out, only the 1798/7 7x6 Stars had fewer auction appearances. The present example is well detailed in virtually all areas, being layered in a delicate reddish patina. A bit of roughness is seen in the left obverse field and adjustment marks angle across the reverse in two different directions. Any appearance of a 1797 Small Eagle Ten Dollar is a noteworthy offering. Population: 5 in 55, 15 finer (11/04).
