Description

Elusive 1895-O Morgan Dollar in Mint State

1895-O $1 MS62 ANACS. Nearly unobtainable in strictly Uncirculated condition, the 1895-O is one of the few issues in the Morgan dollar series that approaches the rarity in Mint State of the legendary 1892-S and 1893-S. All of the necessary conditions for an attractive, high grade dollar seem to be lacking in the 1895-O issue, in general. The typical coin shows indifferent luster, numerous abrasions, and a weak strike. This lightly toned coin has a bright, satiny, metallic sheen over both sides. It is also almost fully struck with the faintest bit of weakness evident over the ear of Liberty, and the eagle's breast feathers are also somewhat soft. The only obverse abrasions of any note are a milling mark in the field left of Liberty's face, while numerous field marks and a couple of heavy abrasions, on the eagle's lower abdomen, are seen on the reverse. A nicely preserved and conditionally scarce '95-O Morgan. Population: 22 in 62, 27 finer (4/03).
