Intensely Contrasted 1964 Kennedy Half
PR69 Deep Cameo, Registry Set Essential

1964 50C PR69 Deep Cameo PCGS. Precious few of the 1964 proof Kennedy halves in existence ever attain the Deep Cameo designation from PCGS. Most examples were produced from well-used dies that showed little or no mint frost remaining on the devices, ruling out the Cameo or the much-rarer Deep Cameo rating.
This piece, however, shows a generous layer of intense mint frost over all devices on both sides, with profound field reflectivity that produces the coveted "black-on-silver" contrast so desired--and pursued--in this series. The surfaces are essentially pristine, as demanded of the grade, although a loupe reveals a few tiny obverse flecks behind the portrait. The 90% silver first-year key to the Kennedy proof series, and a Registry Set essential. PCGS has certified only 70 in this grade, and there are none finer at that service (4/09).(Registry values: N491)
