Description

Extremely Rare 1921 Satin Finish Proof Peace Dollar

1921 $1 Matte PR62 ANACS. The 1921 Satin Finish proof strikings have only been known since 1975, when one surfaced at the ANA that year. Since that time the diagnostics have been widely disseminated and the "look" of these coins is usually distinctive enough to tip off most astute buyers. As one would expect, the finish of the coin is satiny and bright, apparent even through the steel-gray and golden toning that covers each side. There are numerous raised polishing lines in the left obverse fields--one of the diagnostics for Satin Finish proofs. Also, the triangular pellet after TRVST is unusually bold, as are the rays on the reverse. There are also several raised die marks in the field behind S and OF on the reverse. The striking quality is extraordinarily bold with complete definition on all the design elements. This is one of perhaps 10-12 legitimate Satin Finish proof 1921 Peace dollars that are known today and recognizable as such.
