Description

Lustrous MS66 1838 Half Dollar

1838 50C MS66 NGC. This is one of the finest examples of this elusive type coin to exist. The luster is bright and undiminished by time or attrition. Fully struck on the new steam press (1836) with bold curls on Liberty, all the fine drapery lines present, and even the claws of the eagle are sharp. Mostly silver-white, accented by tinges of rainbow iridescence at the peripheries, and with strong luster in the fields. Ringed with a minor die crack through the reverse legend. The combined NGC and PCGS Population reports show a total of six coins graded this high, with a single example seen finer of this date. A great selection for the numismatist who needs this short-lived type.(Registry values: N7079)
