Description

1870 $1 PR62 NGC. Despite the sizable official mintage for this proof dollar, fewer examples are known of it than of the With Motto pieces of prior years. Most scholars speculate that examples were melted, though the truth remains a numismatic enigma. Gold, aqua, and violet patina covers most of the surfaces, while the centers have significant silver-gray patina. Modestly reflective but boldly defined with scattered hairlines in the fields.(Registry values: N1793)
