Description

Attractive 1855-O Double Eagle XF40

1855-O $20 XF40 NGC. Double Eagle production in New Orleans slowed considerably after relatively large outputs from 1850 through 1853. However, from 1854 through 1856 very small mintages were recorded, with the 1855-O being the highest of the three. A mere 8,000 pieces were struck. The number of survivors is probably fewer than 100 coins, most in the XF and AU grade range. This solid XF representative displays appealing coppery accents and remnants of reflective luster. (#8915) (Registry values: N2998)
