Description:

Extraordinary 1883/2 FS-013.3 Shield Nickel, Unsurpassable MS66 Quality at PCGS

1883/2 5C MS66 PCGS. FS-013.3. While numerous recut date varieties exist for the 1883 Shield Nickel, the present coin is an unmistakable overdate as pictured in the 2000 book The Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties by Fivaz and Stanton. Delicate ice-blue and pale lilac-gold hues overlay lustrous surfaces with a pastel tinge. Neither the sharp strike nor the smooth, virtually carbon-free surfaces are worthy of even the slightest criticism. A truly wonderful example that should have little difficulty finding its way into a Registry Set. PCGS Population: 3 in 66, with not a single example finer (10/02). (#3814)

We changed the way we image slabbed coins on February 1, 2010, in order to get a more accurate image of the coin. To get the sharper details and more accurate colors we have focused the lighting on the actual coin, which has caused the top of the holders to appear darker and milky. Please disregard the color of the holders when examining the images.
