Description:

Frosty Gem 1879-CC Morgan Dollar

1879-CC $1 MS65 NGC. Although the U.S. Treasury releases of the early 1960s resulted in the availability of considerable numbers of 1879-CC Morgan dollars, the vast majority are in the lower range of Uncirculated and do not remotely approach the quality of the present example. This piece is made even more desirable when one considers the huge numbers of Morgan dollar aficionados who would love to own one. The frosty devices and semi-prooflike fields on this coin constitute an appearance that is high-end, even for the justly deserved Gem designation. Liberty's cheek is clean and free of all but a couple of small reeding marks and tiny luster breaks. The fields show a few trivial abrasions and chatter, and those only under a loupe. The appearance of a strictly graded Gem example is a fleeting opportunity, one on which some astute Morgan collector will no doubt capitalize. Among the finest graded at NGC, with two finer at PCGS (1/06).(Registry values: P7, N4719) (#7086)

We changed the way we image slabbed coins on February 1, 2010, in order to get a more accurate image of the coin. To get the sharper details and more accurate colors we have focused the lighting on the actual coin, which has caused the top of the holders to appear darker and milky. Please disregard the color of the holders when examining the images.
