Description:

Flashy 1855-C Half Eagle MS62

1855-C $5 MS62 PCGS. Variety 23-J. Both sides of this eye appealing Dahlonega five are mildly reflective except for a thin unfinished area about the peripheries. Field marks are evenly dispersed and generally light, although perhaps unfairly heightened by the coin's flashy mint luster. Blushes of orange patina are primarily confined to the lower reverse border. As with several other Uncirculated examples we have offered over the past decade, the striking details of the obverse are particularly bold while a touch of softness can be found on the eagle's neck feathers and right (facing) talons. Several low-end Mint State pieces have surfaced in recent years, but in MS62 and finer grades the 1855-C remains an extremely challenging issue. Population: 2 in 62, 1 finer (1/06).(Registry values: P4) (#8262)

We changed the way we image slabbed coins on February 1, 2010, in order to get a more accurate image of the coin. To get the sharper details and more accurate colors we have focused the lighting on the actual coin, which has caused the top of the holders to appear darker and milky. Please disregard the color of the holders when examining the images.
