Bid increments determine the lowest amount you may bid on a particular lot. Normally, bids must be at least one bidding increment over the current bid. Mint State 1783 Nova Constellatio Copper
1783 COPPER Nova Constellatio Copper, Pointed Rays, Large US MS62 Brown NGC. Crosby 1-A. R.3. An extraordinary coin for the specialist that boasts rich brown surfaces graced by luster in the fields. The strike is sharp enough to show all the peripheral lettering and devices, although weakness is found on the reverse wreath and the eyeball at the very center of the obverse. Clean surfaces for the grade, as no abrasions detract from the fields or devices. Furthermore, there are no significant spots or areas of heavy corrosion, both frequently encountered on these early copper coins. For identification minor dark traces of patina are found through NOVA. A trivial planchet flaw extends off the lower right serif of the second T of JUSTITIA.The obverse die was damaged prior to this coin being struck, with two separate areas that show curved dentils through the stars and rays. This may have been caused when the reverse die loosened and partially tilted at an angle in the coining press and was struck into the obverse die. Although technically this type of damage would be considered die clashing, this is not the usual form seen. Taking first the area of die clashing below ATIO, in this instance there is a clear round rim with dentils reaching toward the letters, with a small portion continuing into the O of CONSTELLATIO. The dentils are shaped like pickets in a fence, straight sided and well separated from each other. On the other die clashing located below NSTEL the raised die marks have the appearance of normal dentils seen on the present coin, rounded hills that are much closer together, matching the reverse dentils on the present coin. The surfaces are glossy and pleasing for the grade. Certainly well up in the Condition Census for the variety, and presently this coin is second finest graded by NGC behind a single MS63 coin, and tops all those examples seen by PCGS. An impressive coin for the specialist that is worthy of the finest collection. (#804)

We changed the way we image slabbed coins on February 1, 2010, in order to get a more accurate image of the coin. To get the sharper details and more accurate colors we have focused the lighting on the actual coin, which has caused the top of the holders to appear darker and milky. Please disregard the color of the holders when examining the images.
