Heritage Adds 1 Millionth Coin to Permanent Auction Archives

Buyer and Seller of Milestone Lot Both Awarded Prizes

Dallas, TX: Heritage Auction Galleries has added their one-millionth coin lot to its Permanent Auction Archives. "Heritage is very proud to announce that we have achieved this impressive milestone - more than one million coin lots with complete data and millions of images are now available free to our registered bidder-members at," said Jim Halperin, Co-Chairman of Heritage. "Our one millionth archived lot, Lot 12189 from our Tuesday Internet Coin Auction #27013, was a 1925 Peace dollar certified MS65 NGC, which realized $151.80. Our Archives now contain more than one billion dollars of coins and currency that Heritage has sold at auction!"

"This was the buyer's very first successful Heritage bid," continued Halperin. "This Michigan collector, who wishes to remain anonymous, had bid with us only once before: unsuccessfully in our F.U.N. 2007 Online Session. He has now bid on ten lots at, been a happy winner on two lots, and has been rewarded with a $500 gift certificate for use in our future auctions. Not a bad way to start a new numismatic relationship! And he purchased a wonderful coin, although perhaps not in the price range of million-dollar rarities that Heritage has handled recently! Heritage handles coins in a wide array of prices, and we have clients at all price points."

Commenting on his new hobby, the buyer of the one-millionth lot informed us: "I am fairly new to numismatics, although I have been collecting different areas of personal interest since I was about 6. I have to say my experience with Heritage has been nothing but favorable. Heritage not only provides a wealth of information to the newcomer, they also make collecting a very pleasant experience. In this day and age with fast-paced lives and families, Heritage allows people to enjoy their hobbies and interests with a sense of security, interest, and accomplishment when they win that one special item. Heritage provides an abundance of selections for anyone from an experienced collector to the inexperienced, making transactions so easy one can thoroughly enjoy the hobby. Heritage has truly become the only dealer I want to deal with for my collections."

Unlike the bidder, the consignor of Lot 12189 is an 'old Heritage Hand.' Timothy Allen of Maryland has been consigning to Heritage's auctions since 2004, and has participated in a wide range of our venues: Signature Auctions; OnLine Sessions; and our Sunday and Tuesday Internet Coin Auctions. When informed of this significant milestone, Mr. Allen stated: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank Heritage for the fine experiences that I have had in consigning coins. Every consignment has been handled in the most expert and efficient manner with positive results!" His settlement statement for Lot 12189 will include an extra $500, which probably places it among the most valuable MS65 1925 dollars sold in many years!

"In March 2006," continued Halperin, "we announced that we had achieved the milestone of one million numismatic lots in our Permanent Auction Archives (consisting of 841,966 coin lots, and 158,965 currency lots). Now, only ten months later, we have reached another important milestone - one million coins. Incidentally, our currency Archives now contain 194,235 past auction lots, so another milestone is upcoming there as well!"

"The Permanent Auction Archives is the Internet's most valuable numismatic research tool," Halperin explained, "and it is provided free of charge to all of Heritage's 275,000+ registered bidder-members. Collectors use the Archives to research the results from all of Heritage's previous auctions. Lots are presented with enlargeable, full-color images, complete catalog description, date of the auction, and the price realized. Everything that a savvy collector needs to make smart bidding and buying decisions is available with their free membership at"

"Heritage is the only auction firm in the world that makes such information available to its clients, and the searchable database is quick and easily used," concluded Halperin. "It's part of our transparency commitment to provide the most information possible to our clients, to make them better-informed and more confident collectors. The Archive is arguably Heritage's most popular benefit to membership. Collectors are truly grateful that we provide this information -- let alone, provide it for free."
