Heritage Coins Awards 9th Mint State MCMVII High Relief $20
Dallas, TX: Louis Mo, a California collector specializing in Lincoln cents, was selected as the winner of a 1907 Certified Mint State High Relief $20. This was the ninth High Relief Saint that Heritage has given away. Winners are chosen from thousands of respondents to the Heritage Annual Auction Survey. Dr. Mo, who as a 10-year-old boy collected Lincoln cents in the old Whitman folders, became reacquainted with coin collecting while taking care of his ill mother.
"Taking care of her in the evening hours at home after a long day at work often created many hours of not having much to do," noted Dr. Mo. "It was then that I reintroduced myself to the hobby I had enjoyed years ago. Of course, there were many changes during those years and I took the challenge of getting myself up-to-date as quickly as possible. During those late hours I researched as many books as I could find on Lincoln cents and soon began an aggressive attempt to create a quality collection of coins that I could only dream of owning as a child. Heritage has definitely been a big part of my coin collecting experience. I was introduced to the auction experience through Heritage and have acquired many of my best coins through them."
"To be honest with you, I really didn't realize what I had won when I received notification last week stating I had won a mint state High Relief $20 St. Gaudens," Louis added. "For simply filling out a survey at the Long Beach show in January, I figured the prize wouldn't be worth more than several hundred dollars. It was when the words "High Relief" kept repeating themselves in my head that I decided to do some quick research and read as much on it as I could in a few hours. That's when the excitement really hit, when I found out what it was that I had actually won! Then I knew I hadn't filled out just any survey!"
Continued Dr. Mo, "I will probably eventually collect other coins besides Lincolns and receiving this prize has given me some impetus to do so. But for now, I will stick with the coin I know best and when the time is right, I'll move on to something else."
Additionally, Peter Shireman and Ronald Swerdloff each won a Choice Uncirculated Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Pieces valued around $500.
