Indiana Collector Wins Mint State High Relief $20;
Eighth Awarded by Heritage Numismatic Auctions

Dallas, Texas: Tim Hernly, a life-long coin collector, has become Heritage's eighth winner of a High Relief Double Eagle, certified Mint State by NGC. Mr. Hernly, who has been collecting coins since the age of eight when his grandfather introduced him to the hobby, was thrilled to receive the Grand Prize from Heritage's Annual 2003 Auction Survey, out of more than 6,000 surveys submitted. Heritage also awarded a second-prize trip to FUN 2004, and four Saint-Gaudens $20s to ANA members who participated in the survey.

Mr. Hernly was ecstatic once he got over the shock of winning and suspicion that it was a prank. “Your call was about the best news a fellow could hope for! My first reaction was that this is some wise-guy coin dealer friend who wants me to think it's Heritage calling to tell me I've won a free High Relief.” Once convinced that he was indeed the winner, Mr. Hernly “immediately called my wife to share the news. That evening, we discussed it with our two daughters, who are students at St. Joseph grade school in South Bend. We decided that since this coin is a gift, we will share the gift with our community and donate its value to local charities.”

According to Mr. Hernly, “The $20 High Relief double eagle gold piece is one of my all-time favorites. It was the greatest masterwork of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the brilliant sculptor who was commissioned by Teddy Roosevelt in 1907 to design this coin. It's such a beautiful and majestic coin. It's fitting that Heritage, a firm that is the epitome of professionalism, would choose this coin to represent it in its annual contest. I can't wait to show the coin to my friends and my law partners. I'm going to crack the coin out of its holder so everyone can see its full beauty. It will surely attract some new people to this wonderful hobby!”

Mr. Hernly, a tax attorney with Barnes & Thornburg, a South Bend, Indiana law firm, uses his many business and personal relationships to spread the word about numismatics. “Each Thanksgiving, I send reproductions of early coppers to all of my friends and clients - over 1,000 every year. I love learning about the history and art of coinage, as well as the science of die-making and striking coins.”"Mr. Hernly has bought, sold and consigned many coins to Heritage over the years, and he uses many of the research features available free to members at www.HeritageCoin.com."
