Museum Collection Services and Management

Heritage Auctions' Museum and Institutional Services department is dedicated to fulfilling the specific collection management needs of museums, institutions, and historical societies with the utmost respect and discretion. The department, established by the late Edmund P. "Ted" Pillsbury, celebrated former director of the Kimbell Art Museum, is a valuable resource for buying and selling at auction, private treaty sales, loans, and exhibitions.

With specialists in over 30 different collecting categories, Heritage can help museums with appraisal needs, whether to establish fair market or replacement value of the current collection or of potential donations to the institution. We will work with museum administrators and their patrons regarding valuation, and we will strive to satisfy any required time frames. Preliminary walkthroughs and consultations can be arranged at no cost. Our purpose is to simplify the process while providing thorough appraisal reports in compliance with USPAP standards.

If you are refining or enhancing your collections, we are available to assist quickly and in accordance with your institution's collections plans. Among other institutions, we have worked with the American Red Cross, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, the Heard Natural Science Museum, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Amon Carter Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, Geppi's Entertainment Museum, and the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame Museum.
