Description

1908 50C MS65 PCGS. Ex: Friend. At all the mints combined, 1906, 1907, and 1908 were the highest production years for Barber half dollars. Of course, those are also the only three years that Barber halves were coined at four different mints, rather than three for most remaining years. However, in 1908, production at Philadelphia actually slackened, with 1,354,000 half dollars struck. With just 24 Gem or finer submissions certified by PCGS, finding a suitable example is hardly a piece of cake.

The obverse of the Dale Friend Gem is essentially brilliant with bold design details, light ivory in the fields, and gold and subtle blue on the devices. The reverse, also sharply defined, has wispy gold and lilac-gray toning. Population: 14 in 65, 10 finer (11/15).
