Description

1877 Indian Cent, PR66 Red
The Key to the Series

1877 1C PR66 Red PCGS. CAC. Ex: Perfection 2. This amazing Premium Gem has fully brilliant orange mint color. The fields are fully and deeply mirrored around exquisitely detailed devices. Both sides exhibit satin luster on those devices, with noticeable field-to-device contrast, although this piece is not designated as a Cameo proof. The reverse has bold Ns in ONE CENT, and the right pendant of the T is bulging on this reverse die, one of three dies identified for the proofs. The particular reverse die was used on some proof examples in each year from 1872 to 1878. This is the only PR66 Red example to earn CAC endorsement, and there are no higher-graded CAC qualified 1877 proofs. PCGS population: 11 in 66 Red, 2 finer (11/15).
