Description
1913-D Half Dollar, MS66
Denver Mint Rarity
Tied for the Finest at PCGS
1913-D 50C MS66 PCGS Secure. CAC. The 1913-D Barber half
dollar had a mintage of only 534,000 coins, and PCGS has only
certified 16 examples in Gem or finer grades, making this the
rarest Denver Mint Barber half dollar at the Gem level. This issue
had the seventh lowest mintage of the entire Barber half dollar
series, yet many price guides list the 1913-D at common date
prices. It is anything but a common date. It is usually only when
advanced collections, such as the Dr. Duckor Collection or the Dale
Friend Collection, appear on the market that Gem or Premium Gem
1913-D half dollars become available. For that reason, Dr. Shireman
was extremely surprised to locate this beauty on eBay. This frosty
example has brilliant mint luster and a bold strike with excellent
eye appeal that is heightened by its dappled golden-brown toning.
