1856 Three Dollar Gold, MS63
Pleasing for the Grade
1856 $3 MS63 NGC. Although not as scarce as the San
Francisco issue of this year, the 1856 three dollar gold is elusive
in Select Mint State, and finer pieces are rarely seen. This
example displays satiny, yellow-gold luster with hints of rose in
the protected areas. No major abrasions are present, only light
chatter on the cheek and in the adjacent field. The bowknot shows
the only mentionable strike weakness. Census: 17 in 63, 9 finer
