Description

1863 Seated Dollar, MS63
Semiprooflike Fields

1863 $1 MS63 NGC. This Select 1863 dollar possesses numerous die polish marks, especially on the reverse, which is quite typical for the issue (Dave Bowers, 1993). Faint hairlines are interspersed with these die striae, especially on the obverse. Excellent contrast is noted between the frosted, sharply stuck design elements and partially prooflike fields. A haze of light golden color overlays both sides. Some minute contact marks are located in the upper-right reverse field. A rather pleasing coin overall. Census: 9 in 63 (1 in 63+), 29 finer (2/16).
