Description

1859 Indian Head Cent, MS66
A Top One-Year Type Example

1859 1C MS66 PCGS. CAC. The Flying Eagle design presented Mint officials with striking difficulties and was replaced with an Indian Head motif in 1859. The laurel wreath introduced in that year was substituted with an oak wreath and shield design in 1860, creating a popular one-year type in 1859. This Premium Gem cent boasts crisp feather and ribbon detail. Golden-amber surfaces show a handful of scattered ticks, but they are relatively insignificant, as this piece is among the finest survivors from a mintage of 36.4 million coins. Population: 28 in 66 (3 in 66+), 0 finer (3/16).(Registry values: N2998)
