Description

1839 Two and a Half, AU55
Choice Original Surfaces

1839 $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Breen-6148, Variety 21, R.3. As the final year of the Classic Head quarter eagles, conventional wisdom would expect many pieces to be numismatically preserved, but apparently that is not the case with this underappreciated Philadelphia issue. The mintage of 27,021 pieces shows surprisingly few grading events. This About Uncirculated example is a Choice representative of the date, earning CAC endorsement. Lovely greenish-gold surfaces retain pleasing mint luster in protected areas, and abrasions are few, tiny, and far between. The coin displays a sharp strike with no mentionable distractions whatsoever. Population: 19 in 55, 18 finer (2/16).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# E2NC, PCGS# 7698, Greysheet# 8249)

Weight: 4.18 grams

Metal: 89.92% Gold, 10.08% Copper
