1806 50C Pointed 6, No Stem, O-109a, T-15, R.3, AU53 PCGS.
Tompkins Die State 6/4. The lack of the stem at the eagle's right
(facing) claw confirms that while the leafy portion of the olive
branch was part of the master die, the stem was not. Added to each
reverse by hand, the stem varies from variety to variety but the
O-109 (T-15) die pair is the sole variety in which the stem is
entirely missing -- an engraver's blunder. This example shows ample
remaining mint luster and attractive lilac-gold toning. As usual
for the late die state, the coin is a touch weakly struck at the
centers but somewhat stronger at the peripheries. Very few marks
appear on the colorful, appealing surfaces. An important Guide
