Description

1798 B-29, BB-119 Dollar, XF40
Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Ex: Miller

1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Close Date, B-29, BB-119, R.4, XF40 PCGS. Ex: Miller. Bowers Die State II. A scarce variety with the date closely spaced and the second 8 high, almost touching the bust. The cracked obverse die was carried forward for its seventh and final use on BB-119. The reverse was used in its early state to strike the current variety, and in a later state for its final use on BB-120. This is the Bowers Encyclopedia plate coin for the variety, notable for its lengthening obverse die cracks amid light, almond-gold toning that deepens at the lower obverse with occasional blue accents. The reverse is similarly toned, and both sides show only smooth wear. There are no adjustment marks or serious abrasions.
