1798 B-29, BB-119 Dollar, XF40
Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Ex: Miller
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Close Date, B-29, BB-119, R.4,
XF40 PCGS. Ex: Miller. Bowers Die State II. A scarce variety
with the date closely spaced and the second 8 high, almost touching
the bust. The cracked obverse die was carried forward for its
seventh and final use on BB-119. The reverse was used in its early
state to strike the current variety, and in a later state for its
final use on BB-120. This is the Bowers Encyclopedia plate
coin for the variety, notable for its lengthening obverse die
cracks amid light, almond-gold toning that deepens at the lower
obverse with occasional blue accents. The reverse is similarly
toned, and both sides show only smooth wear. There are no
