1859 Seated Liberty Dollar, MS61
Underrated Antebellum Issue
1859 $1 MS61 NGC. CAC. OC-4, Low R.4. Osburn-Cushing Die
State a/a. The 1859 Seated Liberty dollar is much more difficult to
locate than its mintage of 255,700 pieces would suggest. It is
likely that most of the coins were exported in the China trade and
melted for bullion. This attractive MS61 example offers
well-detailed design elements and the pleasing surfaces show the
minimum number of minor contact marks for the grade. Traces of
original mint luster shine through shades of lavender-gray and
greenish-gold toning. Census: 3 in 61, 29 finer. CAC: 1 in 61, 7
