Description

1886 25C MS65 PCGS. Briggs 1-A. The 1886 boasts the lowest mintage among a decade's worth of low-mintage issues. Output totaled just 5,000 coins, and only the 1873-CC No Arrows, of which six examples are known, has a smaller mintage in the entire Seated quarter series. Many Uncirculated pieces were squirreled away speculatively by contemporary collectors, explaining the relatively high survival rate in Mint State. The typically prooflike surfaces are partly subdued by the dramatic ice-blue and violet toning that shrouds each side of this Gem example. It is well-struck and carefully preserved with grade-defining marks mostly hidden beneath the rich patina. Population: 10 in 65, 20 finer (5/16).
