Description
1805 BD-1 Quarter Eagle, MS61
Pleasing, Original Surfaces
1805 $2 1/2 BD-1, R.4, MS61 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State
c/b with a delicate die crack through the final three date digits.
The obverse is caramel-gold throughout. The reverse is primarily
rose-red, though peripheral portions of that side are lemon-gold.
The strike shows softness on the dentils near the 18 in the date,
and opposite near the ST in STATES, likely due to an attenuated
flan. The centers are also incomplete, usual for the type. The
satiny surfaces are refreshingly free from marks. An opportunity to
acquire this challenging early gold type in a Mint State grade.
