Description
1926-S Buffalo Nickel, MS64
Well-Preserved Condition Key
1926-S 5C MS64 PCGS. The 1926-S is a key primarily because
of its low mintage (970,000 pieces, the smallest in the series).
But the availability of Mint State examples is also noticeably less
than that of many other dates from this period. Above MS64, this
issue is genuinely rare. PCGS and NGC have each seen only 14
submissions in MS65 and finer (6/16). This near-Gem remains
accessible for collectors but possesses surface quality that rivals
that of some Gem-graded coins. The strike is slightly soft overall
but still above-average for a branch mint issue from the 1920s.
Satiny, champagne luster emits overtones of orange-gold and
lavender, giving this piece pleasant eye appeal. From The Craig and Jeff Lehrer Collection.(Registry values: N4719)
