Description
1904-O Barber Half Dollar, MS66
Beautiful Color and Surfaces
Ex: Duckor, Akers
1904-O 50C MS66 PCGS Secure. Ex: Duckor/Akers. Incredibly so
for the issue, this Premium Gem 1904-O half is fully struck on both
sides. The coin is arguably sharper than the outstanding Dr. Price
specimen that David Akers said was "much more sharply struck than
normally seen." The brilliant silver surfaces are incredibly smooth
and free of problems, other than a few inconsequential ticks. The
surfaces are highly lustrous, with satiny fields resulting from die
lapping. Both sides have delicate peripheral rainbow toning,
including gold, russet, violet, and blue. This piece compares favorably to all past offerings of 1904-O half dollars. The strike and grade are at least equal to the Price coin and finer than the Pryor-Hugon, Eliasberg, and Nichols specimens. It is also finer than the Norweb example. The Buddy Byers coin had a similar strike but was of inferior technical quality. The Gem specimen in the Queller Family Collection is nearly as fine as the present piece. Population: 6 in 66 (2 in 66+), 2 finer (6/16).
