Description

1871 Three Dollar Gold, MS60
Elusive in Mint State

1871 $3 MS60 NGC. The 1871 gold three dollar piece had a small mintage of 1,300 pieces, with only limited numbers preserved in Mint State. This piece is at the low end of the Mint State spectrum, but there are no severe abrasions -- light surface chatter is all that limits the grade. Each side is well-struck and displays satiny orange-gold luster in the fields. Census: 2 in 60, 40 finer (7/16).(Registry values: N2998)
