Description

1793 S-1, B-1 Chain Cent, Good 6
AMERI. Reverse

1793 1C Chain, AMERI., S-1, B-1, R.4, Good 6 PCGS. Despite a considerable amount of planchet roughness on the obverse, both the portrait and LIBERTY above are quite strong, with only the date being made nearly illegible. As always, the reverse has survived with noticeably sharper definition, especially in the center where the chain and denomination are appear in bold relief. The 1793 Chain AMERI. Cent was the first business-strike coin produced in the new Mint in Philadelphia. The word AMERICA was abbreviated to AMERI. on the reverse. Since there is only one variety with the abbreviated reverse, and since it is the first regular production coin struck in the Mint, Chain AMERI. Cents are not only of interest to large cent specialists and advanced type collectors, but also serious collectors in all facets of American history. Our EAC grade Good 4.
