Superior Strike and Eye Appeal

1873 5C Open 3 MS66 PCGS. This gleaming Premium Gem is entirely brilliant with an unfinished area at the bottom of the shield stripes. The strike and eye appeal are far superior to most examples of this date. There are artifacts of metal under the date digits that have made some experts (such as Walter Breen) believe in an 1873/2 overdate, although it is not recognized by any of the leading grading services.
