Bowers Die State III. Faint cracks on the obverse and reverse
identify the middle state of the dies. Star 2 is noticeably
repunched and the obverse stars both left and right appear bunched
toward LIBERTY, useful pick-up points since BB-169 is the sole use
of the obverse die. Most examples of the variety show considerable
wear and are only seen in lower grades, increasing the importance
of this About Uncirculated example. Reddish-brown toning with blue
overtones covers the fields and devices, with silver-gray areas on
the high points of the motifs and hints of silver luster in
protected areas. Marks are minimal, with sharp definition on the
