Description

1846-D Two and a Half, MS61
Rare in Mint State

1846-D $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. Variety 7-I, a scarce reverse die with the mintmark virtually touching the claw. At least five dies are known, despite a stingy production of 19,303 pieces. Canary-gold toning visits this richly detailed example, which has a paucity of the small marks usually found on Dahlonega gold. Population: 5 in 61, 3 finer (9/16).
Ex: Summer FUN Signature (Heritage, 7/2009), lot 1310.
